CERVANTEZ TO HOST PROSECUTOR CONFERENCE AT SIU SCHOOL OF LAW

Jackson County State’s Attorney, Joseph A. Cervantez, announced today that the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office will host the Illinois Prosecutor’s Bar Association Conference at Southern Illinois University School of Law this week beginning on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

The SIU School of Law will be opening its doors to a large number of prosecutors from across southern Illinois in order to teach them the latest techniques in the field. The Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association (IPBA) is holding the event in southern Illinois for only the second time, according to Jackson County State’s Attorney Joe Cervantez.

In 2002, Cervantez invited the Illinois Prosecutor’s Bar Association to hold a continuing education conference in southern Illinois, in order to train prosecutors from around the region. The IPBA is now returning for a second prosecutor conference. The IPBA Training Conference happens September 26 and September 27 at the Simmons Law School on west campus from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

“We need to be up to speed on all the current prosecutor techniques, so our methods are consistent across the region,” Cervantez said. The two-day training seminar consists of numerous training techniques, including obtaining and admitting digital evidence, witness control factors, and other topics.

“One of my duties is to make sure that our prosecutors are well trained and up to date on current issues,” Cervantez said.
